An outline. The full text is being written with a lawyer.
- Who we are: Storey, based in Toronto, Canada.
- The plan: $0.15 per GB, per year, from 50 GB ($7.50), in steps of 50 GB, up to 1 TB. Larger plans are arranged by email. Yearly, renewing automatically, with a reminder 30 days before. No one-time price. Prices are in US dollars, before tax, and tax is added where it applies.
- Plan size is a hard upload limit. Raising it is charged pro-rated to the renewal date. Lowering it takes effect at the next renewal, and only if the files fit in the smaller plan.
- Downloads are unlimited and ready within 12 hours. A ready download stays available for 7 days.
- Missed payment: 12 months' grace, with reminders to both contacts when the payment fails and after 1, 3, 6, 9 and 11 months, and final warnings 30 and 7 days before deletion. Downloads keep working during the grace, and uploads pause. Then every copy is deleted.
- Closing: files kept for one more year, with downloads still working and uploads off, and an email 30 days before every copy is deleted. On request, every copy is deleted within 30 days instead.
- One login per couple. What a backup contact is, and what they can't do.
- What you can store: your wedding photos and videos, and your other photos and videos. [To confirm: rules on content, such as only files you have the right to keep (with the lawyer).]
- If Storey closes: at least 90 days' notice to both contacts, free and unlimited downloads throughout, then every copy is deleted. [To confirm: how the notice period is paid for, files that aren't downloaded, and couples whose emails no longer work.]
Privacy policy
- What we collect: your login email, the names and emails of your main and backup contacts, your plan and billing records, your files, and technical records such as IP addresses and login times, kept to run and protect the service. [To confirm: how long these records are kept.]
- What we do with your files: our systems read them to make thumbnails and prepare downloads. Apart from keeping them, that's all we use them for. We never sell them, or use them for ads or to train AI. No one at Storey opens them unless the couple asks for help, or the law requires it.
- Card payments go through a payment provider. [To confirm: that card details never reach Storey's own servers.]
- A cookie keeps you logged in. Visits to the site are counted without cookies.
- Where copies are kept: in data centers in Northern Virginia and Northern California in the United States, and in Toronto, Canada, where the copy is kept offline. Files are stored outside Canada, so the policy says so plainly.
- How long we keep things: the 12 months' grace, the year after closing, and invoices as the law requires. Deleting sooner on request, within 30 days.
- Backup contacts: we email them when they're added, and they can ask to be removed.
- Your rights under privacy law. [To confirm: written with the lawyer.]
